What is Vetronite?

Vetronite is a family of composite materials based on glass fibers and resin, with excellent dielectric and mechanical characteristics.
It is made using a glass fiber fabric, impregnated with a resin matrix. Finally, multiple layers of fabric are overlapped and thermo-pressed at high temperatures, thus obtaining laminates with excellent insulating properties.
It finds application in almost all sectors, from aeronautics to naval, from energy to robotics, with an application also in the construction of printed circuits.
At La Misolet it is available in sheets, tubes and rounds.

The different types of fibreglass

Epoxy vetronites: FR4, FR5, G10 and G11

Epoxy fibreboards have a glass fabric as a support capable of retaining the epoxy resin with which it is impregnated.
These materials allow us to obtain semi-finished products with excellent mechanical and insulation characteristics.
They are mainly used in the electromechanical and electronic sectors.
Applications vary based on the type and thickness, low or high, of the fibreglass.

Vetroniti - Misolet

GPO3 polyester glass is a composite of glass MAT impregnated with polyester resin.
For example, blades, air gaps, washers, copper insulation bars, protection panels, rings and gaskets are produced with this material. The aforementioned components find application in low, medium and high voltage disconnectors, but also in electrical panels, transformers, and for energy transport.
The polyester glass is self-extinguishing according to the UL 94 class V0 standard and is free of halogen substances, with low smoke emission and a low toxicity index.

Melamine fibreboards – also called Melovit G5 – are made of glass fiber fabric impregnated with melamine resin. Processing that takes place by means of a thermal and pressurized process.
It is an electrical insulating material, mechanically inferior to epoxy glass, but with high resistance to creeping currents (tracking) and arc resistance.

They also have excellent flame resistance as they are self-extinguishing class V0 according to the UL-94 standard.

Silicone fibreboards – called G7 in technical jargon – are made of glass fiber fabric impregnated with silicone resin. This peculiarity makes them even more resistant to heat, with a temperature class H (180° C), although mechanically lower than epoxy glass.
Like melamine glass, silicone glass also resists tracking and arcing. Furthermore, it is self-extinguishing class V0 according to the UL-94 standard.
